Volleyball begins Ivy League play hosting Yale

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown volleyball begins Ivy League play hosting Yale on Friday (Sept. 23). The matchup against the Bulldogs will begin at 7 p.m. in the Pizzitola Sports Center and will be streamed on ESPN+ and NESN+.
Last season's home matchup against Yale was the Bears' only loss during league play and since dropping the five-set match to Yale, Brown has won its last 18 Ivy League sets. The Bears and Bulldogs met last season to start league play in New Haven with Brown earning a five-set win.

ABOUT BROWN
- The Bears split its final two non-conference games of the season last weekend, falling to UConn in four sets before beating Lindenwood in four sets.
- Against the Huskies, Brown fell behind 0-2 before winning the third set. In the fourth set, Brown had seven set points but could not force a fifth set, eventually losing the fourth set 32-30.
- Freshman Ella Park made her first two starts of her career against UConn and Lindenwood. The setter finished the game against UConn with a career-high 42 assists and added seven digs. In the win over Lindenwood, Park handed out 36 assists and collected a career-best 16 digs for her first double-double.
- Sophia Miller continues to lead the Bears on offense with 3.47 kills per set, averaging more than a kill per set than the second highest number on the team (2.29/Jilienne Widener). Against UConn, Miller finished the game with 13 kills and 12 digs. It was the fourth double-double on the season for Miller and the sixth-straight game with double-digit digs for the senior from Dallas.
- Senior Elise Curtin made a big impact over the last weekend tallying career-highs in both kills and blocks. Curtin finished with six blocks in both matches, including two solo blocks against Lindenwood. In the match against UConn, Curtin finished with six kills, hitting .385. Against Lindenwood, Curtin finished with a career-best 12 kills, hitting .450.
- Beau Vanderlaan posted her third game of the season hitting over .400, hitting .471 with eight kills and no errors against Lindenwood. Vanderlaan leads the team hitting this season with a .267 percentage (more than 50 attempts).
- Victoria Vo leads the Bears backline defense with 3.86 digs per set. Vo has posted double-digit digs in all but one match this season and has reached 20+ digs in three matches this season, including the last two.
- Brown leads the Ivy League in net defense, posting the top number in the league in both blocks/set (2.31) and total blocks (83). Three of the top ten blockers in the league are Bears with Gabby Derrick (1.14) third, Beau Vanderlaan (0.97) fifth and Kate Sheire (0.83) tenth.
- Yale is 8-1 on the season, having won six-straight games since a loss to Florida State. The Bulldogs swept Syracuse and earned a five-set win over Villanova during the streak.
- The Bulldogs are hitting .240 on the season, while holding opponents to a .173 hitting percentage, the best mark in the Ivy League.
- Mila Yarich leads Yale with 3.64 kills per set, good for third in the Ivy league. Three other Bulldogs are averaging 2.45 kills per set or greater.
- The offense runs through Carly Diehl, who is averaging 10.36 assists per set.
- Yale's serving has been impressive this year with the Bulldogs ranking ninth in the NCAA with 2.15 service aces pers set. Cara Shultz is second in the NCAA with 0.88 aces per set and sixth overall with 28 total service aces.
