Men's soccer secures shutout victory over Central Connecticut

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Kyle Gee's goal in the 82nd minute proved to be the deciding factor in Brown men's soccer's 1-0 win over Central Connecticut State Wednesday night at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
The sophomore sent a corner from the left side curling towards the net, the Blue Devil's goalie went up to grab it, but it slipped through his hands and into the back of the net for Gee's first career goal.
The Bears improve to 3-2-0 on the year, 2-0-0 at home, while the Blue Devils fall to to 2-5-0.
"It was a really difficult game and lot of credit has to go to Central Connecticut for that," Zisson Family Assistant Coaching Chair Jack Roberts said. "They had a really good game plan and made it difficult for us. But we're unbelievably proud of the team tonight. A lot of things we talked about going into the game – we wanted a clean sheet, we wanted performances from individuals and collectively – we did a lot of those things."
It took a while for things to get going as only one shot was registered by either team through the first 19 minutes of action. After the first 45, shots were 5-3 in favor of Brown with the Bears' Brady Van Epps having recorded the only look on goal for either team.
Things picked up a bit in the second half as both sides traded looks on goal until Gee's game-winner in the 82nd.
On the night, Brown outshot CCSU 11-7 with a 4-1 edge in shots on goal. The Blue Devils held the advantage in corners at 4-3.
Henrik Weiper made one save in goal for the Bears for his first career shutout.
"We're thrilled to have the clean sheet and to get another win," Roberts said. "And as usual, we have to work hard again tomorrow and prepare for the weekend."
Brown will host Siena this Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. in its final game before Ivy League play begins next weekend.
