HENLEY-ON-THAMES, ENGLAND – The Bruno Eight boat claimed a 1 ¾ length win over the Yale Bulldogs in an all-Ivy League final in the Island Challenge Cup at the 2022 Henley Royal Regatta.
"Congratulations to our 2021-22 team, the members who raced at Henley and to the members back home who pushed and challenged them all year long," said Head Coach John Murphy. "Henley took on a new meaning for us after the NCAA Championships. It was a second chance to come together and to be faster and better than we were in the NCAA Finals. We feel that was accomplished by all our crews on this race course.
"A special thanks to the families and alums who have been behind us from the start and who have been such an incredible presence at this Regatta."
The Bears took a semifinal win over Oxford Brookes University, one of the strongest programs in the United Kingdom, on Saturday.
In the opposite semifinal, Yale knocked off the University of London to set up the all-Ivy final more than 3,000 miles away from either New England campus.
Brown's 1 ¾ length victory was a larger margin than in the 2022 Ivy League Championship, where the Bears edged out the Bulldogs by two-tenths of a second to finish in second.
The win marks the program's first at the famed Regatta following previous visits in 2003, 2007, 2011, and 2015.
The victory wraps up a successful trip to England with both a Henley Royal Regatta and Henley Women's Regatta victory. Two crews also grabbed silver at the Henley Women's Regatta.
