CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brown women's lacrosse team fell to Harvard 15-14 Saturday afternoon at Jordan Field. Despite a third quarter that saw the Bears outscore the Crimson 8-1, Brown came up just short in the game and in its hunt to qualify for the Ivy League Tournament.
Sophia DeRosa led the Bears with seven points from a season-high five goals and two assists. Claire Jeschke and Maggie Fowler each had three points from two goals and one assist, while Mia Mascone (1G, 1A), Annie Burton (1G, 1A), and Jessie Bakes (2G) all had two points. Maddie Joyce also scored once.
Harvard got on the board first in the opening quarter, but Fowler answered for the Bears to tie the game at one. Sophia DeRosa would get a second for Brown in the frame, but not before the Crimson took a three-goal lead. Up by two, Harvard would add a fifth before the quarter came to a close.
The Bears opened the second quarter with two in a row, one by DeRosa and one by Bakes, to pull back within one at 5-4, but the final three strikes of the half belonged to the Crimson, as they took an 8-4 lead into halftime.
Brown came storming back in the third quarter, scoring four times to tie the game less than five minutes into the second half. The Bears would then add four more to take a 12-8 lead with 2:30 remaining in the third. Six different players recorded a goal during the 8-0 run, led by DeRosa who had three of the eight.
Harvard scored to end the third and again to open the fourth to pull back within one at 13-12, but Jeschke would answer for the Bears to put Brown back up two with 11:58 remaining in the game.
From there, the Crimson scored five of the final six goals to retake the lead and claim the victory.
Erin Tucker made 11 saves in goal for the Bears.
