PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown track and field teams will split between two meets this Saturday with the Mark Young Invitational at Yale and the LSU Alumni Gold meet in Louisiana. With just two weeks left until the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, the Bears are seeking to improve their qualifying marks for the upcoming heps.
Brown will be one of 11 schools competing at LSU this weekend, which will feature a handful of Bears making the trip with throwing events starting at 9:30 a.m., jumps at noon and running events at 1:30. A majority of the team will head to Yale.
Entering this week, Brown has five event groups ranked in the top 25 nationally, three on the men's side and two on the women's side. The men's javelin ranks fourth in nation and No. 1 in the Ivy League with an average distance of 65.60m, trailing only Mississippi State, Duke, and Oregon. The men's long jump squad ranks 12th nationally and the triple jumpers rank 14th. The women's triple jumpers moved up two spots into the top 10 this week and now occupy ninth place nationally, with the hammer throwers rankings 24th, both good for tops among the Ancient Eight.
