Women's Rugby Opens 7's Slate with Third-Place Finish at AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Brown women's rugby 7's opened the spring slate at the AIC 7's tournament on Saturday in Springfield with the Brown A squad taking a 42-10 win over Army Black in the third-place game.

"We came out swinging with our first tournament of the year," said senior captain Ainsley Clapp. "We fought hard and played well in winning all three games in our pool. We had a tough loss against Sacred Heart, but we finished strong with an awesome win against Army. We made each other proud today."

"We left our hearts on the field and showed the division we're a real threat," added senior captain Mahdia Parker. "The Brown Bears are going to the top this season!"

The Brown B squad competed in a pair of matches, falling 41-0 against the Army Black squad and 31-0 against Sacred Heart.

The Brown A squad opened the tournament with a 19-5 win over the Army Gold squad and followed that with a 26-17 win over LIU and a 47-0 win over the AIC B squad to advance out of the pool and into the semifinals.

In the semifinal, Brown battled in a 21-7 loss against Sacred Heart but rebounded for a resounding 42-10 win over Army Black in the third-place game.

The Bears return to action on Sunday (Apr. 10) when they host the Brown 7's at Berylson Family Fields.
