Women's Rugby Takes Third at Ivy Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brown women's rugby team took third place in the Ivy 7s Championship, held Saturday at Mignone Field in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The Bears were paired in the Varsity Division alongside Dartmouth, Harvard, and Princeton, taking on the three rivals in pool play before the playoff rounds in the afternoon.
Brown opened the Championship against Dartmouth and jumped to a quick 7-0 lead as Mahdia Parker converted a try seconds into the match. However, Dartmouth controlled play from there and captured a 38-7 win over the Bears.
The Bears squared off against the Harvard Crimson at noon and dropped a back-and-forth, 31-26 match against the host school. Parker scored twice for Brown in the loss to Harvard with Emerson Goodrich and Akilah Cathey converting tries.
Brown closed pool play against Princeton, falling 28-24 to the Tigers to go winless in pool play. Goodrich and Ainsley Clapp converted tries for the Bears in the loss.
The Bears drew Princeton in the Ivy 7s Third Place Game and jumped to a 12-0 halftime lead over the Tigers behind tries from Macilee Mackenzie and Morgan Cunningham. Parker and Zy Thomas added tries early in the second half to push the score to 29-0 in favor of the Bears
Sydeny Hsu converted a try for the Tigers to make it 29-7 in favor of the Bears late in the second half. Brown scored in the final seconds of the match to push the final to 34-7.
Brown returns to action at the USA Rugby Collegiate 7s Championship on Saturday (May 14) and Sunday (May 15) at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgia. The Bears, Big Green, and Crimson will compete alongside the Bears in the national tournament.
