Three Bears Earn Gold to Open Outdoor Season at Myrtle Beach Challenge

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Brown men's and women's track and field teams opened up the 2022 outdoor season on Friday and Saturday with seven throwers competing at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge. Three Bears – Chris White, Kegan Schroeter and Michael Neary - took home gold over the two days, while Schroeter and Sophia Gallucci all earned silvers. Senior Erin McMeniman earned a third place performance in the javelin.
In the men's javelin on Friday afternoon, White took home the gold in his first collegiate meet with a first place throw of 65.03 meters, topping the field of 51 throwers.
Schroeter highlighted the weekend with a gold and silver performance, taking first place out of 43 in the discus on Saturday at 44.66 meters, and runner-up out of 38 competitors in the hammer throw on Friday at 59.26 meters.
Neary won the shot put on Saturday, besting the field of 33 with a 16.53-meter throw.
On Friday, McMeniman and Kenzii Phillips opened up the outdoor season by competing in the women's javelin, and both finished in the top five out of 42 competitors. McMeniman landed on the podium in third place with a throw of 44.88 meters, and Phillips took fifth place at 41.19 meters in her first collegiate outdoor meet.
Also on the women's side, Gallucci turned in a hammer throw of 52.73 meters, finishing in second place with the mark putting her into the top 10 in program history. Jae Crawford competed in the discus on Friday, placing fourth overall after a 37.15-meter throw.
