PRINCETON, N.J. – Brown men's swimming and diving saw more program records fall as the Bears finished fourth in the Ivy League Championships that finished up on Saturday (Feb. 26).
In the 1650 freestyle, Aiden Wilson was Brown's top finisher with a seventh-place finish, shattering Brown's program record with a time of 15:09.39, an NCAA B Cut time. Wilson beat the previous record of 15:24.87 that was set in 1992.
"Outstanding team performance this weekend. Going into championships we knew we could be in the hunt for our first top-3 finish in 24 years, although we fell just short of that, we beat some very talented teams to get fourth," said head coach Kevin Norman. "We had a championship finalist in 12 of 16 events, broke seven school records and possibly have our first NCAA Qualifier since 2014. I think we made a very strong statement that this team is on an exiting upward trajectory and I could not be more proud of this group."
Nicholas Ortega finished in ninth for the Bears, also earning an NCAA B Cut time, touching the wall in 15:15.79. Andrew Berzolla finished in 11th with a time of 15:24.05, Brown's third B Cut time of the event.
Reid Arwood swam a program record time of 1:43.35 to finish fourth in the 200 yard backstroke. Arwood also earned a B Cut time in the event. Carlos Munoz Renteria finished in 16th for Brown with a time of 1:46.56.
Lucas Hess took 15th in the 100 freestyle (44.60) and Jerry O'Mara was 21st (45.03).
After setting the school record in the prelims, Jack Kelly lowered his time in the finals with a B Cut mark of 1:53.70 that was good for third for the freshman. Vincent Huang (1:58.95) and Harrison Powe (1:59.11) finished 12 and 14, respectively.
Ben Hayes clocked a time of 1:46.83, narrowly missing the B Cut time in the 200 butterfly, finishing 12th. KJ Losee finished in 14th with a time of 1:47.81.
In the men's 3-meter event, Trevor Labuda took sixth with a total of 322.40 points.
The night closed with the team of Hess, Michael Lincoln, Hayes and O'Mara finishing fifth in the 400 Free relay with a time of 2:58.12.
