Men's Lacrosse Set for Wednesday Clash at 10th-Ranked North Carolina

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's lacrosse team (1-0, 0-0 Ivy League) heads to Chapel Hill, North Carolina for a Wednesday afternoon clash with the 10th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels (2-1, 0-0 ACC).
Wednesday's game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Dorrance Field and will broadcast and stream on ACC Network.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters Wednesday following its season-opening 19-13 win over Quinnipiac last Saturday (Feb. 19) at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Eleven Bears found the scoresheet with six Bears finishing with multiple points.
- Senior Darian Cook led the Bears offensively with four goals and four assists for eight points. Junior Devon McLane finished with a game-high five goals and six points.
- Brown capitalized on a struggling Bobcat EMO defense, tallying three man-up goals in five attempts. Conversely, Brown kept Quinnipiac's EMO offense at bay, finishing the afternoon 7-for-7 in man-down situations.
- Senior goalie Cameron Fiore played the opening half against the Bobcats and finished with five saves. Sophomore Connor Theriault played the second half for Brown and finished with 12 saves with 10 of those coming in the third quarter.
- At the X, junior Matthew Gunty finished with career-highs in faceoffs won (20), faceoffs taken (31), and ground balls (10). He leads the Ivy League and is 10th in the NCAA in faceoff percentage (.645).
- North Carolina enters Wednesday with a 2-1 overall record, most recently falling at home to Ohio State, 20-8. UNC opened the season with home wins over Richmond (13-9) and Colgate (15-9). The Tar Heels are 10th in the USILA Poll and 12th in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
- Chris Gray, a former Boston University Terrier, leads the Tar Heels with 10 goals, nine assists, and 19 points. Jacob Kelly is the lone Tar Heel with double digit points alongside Gray. He has seven goals and three assists for 10 points.
- As a team, UNC ranks 32nd in the NCAA with 12.00 goals scored per game.
- The Tar Heels rank seventh in the NCAA with a .938 clear percentage. UNC holds opponents to a .781 clear percentage.
- At the X, a pair of Tar Heels have taken the majority of the faceoffs with Chase Mullins leading with a 50.0% rate (12-for-24). Zac Tucci holds a 48.8% rate (21-for-43).
- Between the pipes, Collin Krieg has started all three games and holds a 12.67 goals against average and a .433 save percentage.
- UNC has just one EMO goal on four attempts this season. Opponents have struck for four EMO goals in nine attempts against the Tar Heels.
- Wednesday marks the fourth meeting between Brown and North Carolina in a series dating back to 1985. All three meetings have come in Chapel Hill, with the most recent in 2013.
- Cook received the first Ivy League Player of the Week accolade of his career following his career-high eight points against Quinnipiac. The Redding, Connecticut native also set a career-high with the four assists.
- Junior attackman Devon McLane, who entered the 2022 season with one goal in one game played, exploded for five goals and six points against Quinnipiac (Feb. 19). The Westfield, New Jersey native finished the game with 12 shots and seven shots on goal.
- North Carolina head coach Joe Breschi spent five seasons as an assistant at Brown (1993-97). Breschi helped the Bears, under head coach Peter Lasagna, capture the 1994 and 1995 Ivy League Championships.
- In the five seasons, Brown finished first in the Ivy League twice, second twice, and third once.
