
Bears Offer Strong Showing at Brown Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown track and field teams combined for 21 podium finishes, including 13 individual wins at the Brown Invitational at OMAC on Saturday.
Highlighting the day for Brown were strong performances from the throwers and jumpers on both the men's and women's squads. Kegan Schroeter turned in the No. 2 weight throw in program history. Lauren Yeboah-Kodie took home two individual golds in the long jump and triple jump, and Kendra Ezeama set two new PRs, including her win in the shot put.
Alex Wilson qualified for the finals of the 60 meter hurdles and finished sixth in 7.08 seconds, just one-hundredth off his personal-record. Freshman Pearson Brooks led Brown in the 200 meters with a new collegiate PR of 24.13 seconds. In the hurdles, Marcus Gillespie crossed the finish line first in both the prelims and finals, finishing in 8.40 seconds.
The Bears took three of the top four spots in the 1,000 meters, led by Henry Wood with a time of 2:32.40. Sam Colton (2:33.43) took third and Geordie Young (2:43.80) placed fourth overall. Jared Yabu took home the title in the mile, leading the field of 16 in 4:22.28.
Over in the field events, Jono Pelusi led the way with the individual title in the pole vault at 4.85 meters, over half a meter above the runner-up. After returning to action last week, Altan Mitchell paced Brown and took first place in the triple jump at 14.77 meters.
Schroeter highlighted the day for Brown with a massive 20.22-meter weight throw, winning the event and breaking his previous PR by one centimeter, which is good for the No. 2 weight throw in program history. He now holds he second and third ranked weight throws in program history, following his 20.21-meter toss earlier this indoor season.
Two Bears landed on the podium in the shot put with Michael Neary taking top honors at 16.63 meters, followed in third by Tyler Gurth setting a personal record at 14.67m. Gurth also posted a PR in his other event on the day, finishing fourth in the weight throw at 15.13 meters.
On the women's side, Maddie Frey captured first place in the 60 meter dash in 7.89 seconds. Emma Gallant captured gold in the 200 meters, leading the field in 26.07 seconds. In the 800 meters, juniors Sarah Reichheld (2:26.70) and Emma Madgic (2:29.47) each set new PRs. Maxine Montoya (3:12.39) also set a personal-best in the 1,000 meters.
In the 3,000 meters, Lily Harding and Katie Orchard took back-to-back spots on the podium in second (10:35.82) and third (10:40.94), respectively.
The Bears swept the podium in the triple jump with Yeboah-Kodie (11.68m) taking gold, followed by Daryn Davis (PR-11.68m) in second and Lauren Stern (11.54m) in third. Brooklyn Manna made it a sweep of the top four spots with a PR of 11.50 meters.
Yeboah-Kodie (5.71m) and Brooklyn Manna (5.54m) also left their mark on the long jump by finishing 1-2.
