Men's basketball comes up short against Princeton

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's basketball team fell to Princeton 69-50 Friday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The Bears were able to put together stretches of quality play, but in the end the Tigers were just too sharp on both ends of the floor.
"That was a disappointing loss," head coach Mike Martin said. "It was a tough night for our team. Princeton deserves a lot of the credit, but that was certainly far from what we can do when we're at our best.
"You give up 11 threes, that's not great, but our offense has to be better."
The Tigers three-point shooting proved to be too much on a night where, as Coach Martin pointed out, they converted on 11 from deep. Princeton hit five in the first half and used six second-half threes to essentially put the game away.
Tamenang Choh had a game-high 18 points and secured his fifth double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. Jaylan Gainey grabbed 10 boards as well.
After Princeton started to pull away early in the first, a three by Dan Friday cut the lead to 13-10 with 10:46 to play in the opening frame. Over the next six minutes the Tigers used a 17-4 run to take a 16-point lead with four to play in the half.
The Bears showed some life late in the half, outscoring the Tigers 10-4 over the final three minutes to cut the deficit to 34-24 going into the break.
Princeton opened the second but scoring 18 to Brown's eight to build a 20-point lead at the 14:05 mark.
From there on out, the Bears would never get within 19 and eventually fell by that same margin.
Despite the loss, Brown's playoff hopes are still alive due to Cornell's loss to Dartmouth tonight. The Big Red are in fourth place with a 5-6 Ivy League record, with Harvard and Brown just behind at 4-6 and 4-7 respectively.
The Bears will look to rebound tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 19 when they host Penn at 6 p.m.
