PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Three different members of the Brown University women's hockey team found the back of the net in a 3-1 win over Union Friday night at Meehan Auditorium.
Scoring for the Bears (5-7-1, 3-4-0 ECAC) were senior Madie Stockfish for her first of the season, sophomore Anna Hurd and freshman Jade Iginla. The lone goal for the Dutchwomen (8-7-1, 3-4-1 ECAC) came from senior Emily King.
Junior goalie Kaley Doyle stopped 26 shots and was credited with an assist.
"I thought it was a tough start to the game despite the fact that we scored early," said Head Coach Melanie Ruzzi. "I didn't think we played our game early but they responded really well. We got better in the second period and we locked down in the third. I challenged them to close out the game, get on the forecheck, create offense, play strong defense and I thought they did that well."
Union evened the score on a power play when King sent one home from freshman Amanda Quan and Stephanie Bourque with 15:05 on the clock. It took until late in the first for the Bears to go back ahead when Hurd stole the puck with a big hit, received a pass from junior Maya Mangiafico, and beat the keeper for the 2-1 advantage.
It turned into a defensive battle in the second as Doyle stopped eight Union shot attempts in the period to keep the Bears on top.
The freshman connection of India McDadi and Iginla added one more goal in the third. McDadi caused a Union turnover and sent a centering pass to Iginla who found the back of the net for her eighth of the season to secure the victory.
Brown remains at home for another ECAC contest against RPI on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Scoring came fast and furious in the first. Stockfish put the Bears on the board not even two minutes into the period. The play started with Doyle, who swung the puck around the back of the net to sophomore Abby Hancock, who then passed it ahead to Stockfish to make it a quick, 1-0, lead.Check out our 3️⃣ goals in our win against Union and a postgame interview with Madie Stockfish#EverTrue pic.twitter.com/0UAEdMkjiu
