PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's swimming team won the Bruno Invite over New York University 1517.5-1140.5 after the third and final day competition Sunday. The Bears wrapped up the meet in impressive fashion, setting three more school records on the day.
"Going into tonight I thought we had performed very well for five sessions, but tonight was by far our best," Ollie '50 & Kay Patrell Men's Swimming/Diving Coaching Chair Kevin Norman said. "Starting the night with Max Hardart breaking our school record in the 1650 definitely set the tone and we backed that swim up with several tremendous performances throughout the night including a school record on the one meter by Rowland Lawver and Jack Kelly breaking his own school record in the 200 breaststroke.
"This meet was a very encouraging checkpoint for our team as we head into the second half of the season. As a staff, we learned a lot about where we are and feel there is a great base to build off of, and also things we can adjust and improve on, as we gear up for an exciting second semester."
Hardart set his school record in the 1650 free with a 15:08.04.
Kelly, whose new school record in the 200 breast also set the pool record, is currently the 14th fastest time in the nation. He won the event with a 1:52.93.
In the one meter dive, Lawver set his school record with a 371.18.
Of the seven total events on Sunday, Brown came away with six first place finishes. Of the events not already mentioned, the Bears also won the 100 free, 200 fly, and the 400 free relay.
Marcus Lee took first with a 44.25 in the 100 free. KJ Losee did the same in the 200 fly with a 1:48.74.
In the 400 free relay, Nathan DePiero, Kelly, Harrison Powe, and Vincent Huang combined to take first with a 2:58.61.
