Women's Rugby Takes Third Straight Win with 34-19 Decision Over LIU
10/8/2022 4:17:00 PM | Women's Rugby
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's rugby pushed their win streak to three with a 34-19 home win over the LIU Sharks Saturday morning at Marvel Field.
Nikki Lynch and Noelle Lewis both recorded two tries in the win to lead Brown scorers. Brown and LIU played three 20-minute halves.
"We were lucky to have some nice weather and dealt with the mud left on the pitch from the large amount of rain we've been getting," said Kathleen Flores Women's Rugby Head Coach Rosalind Chou. "Our squad did really well under the conditions playing an improved LIU squad. It was a great physical contest that was back-and-forth and we continue to see us work together as a team. Nikki Lynch is really finding her groove on both attack and defense."
Lynch put the Bears ahead with her first try of the game 12 minutes into the opening half and Morgan Cunningham made it 10-0 for the Bears nine minutes later.
After a LIU try and conversion, Lynch touched down again with Erin Jessop hitting the conversion to push the score to 17-7 in favor of Brown.
Lewis tacked on her first try of the match four minutes after Lynch's second of the day to push the score to 22-7.
Lewis and Akilah Cathey scored consecutive tries early in the third period with Kendall Cunningham recorded her first career conversion to make it 34-12 Bruno.
A last-second try from LIU pushed the final score to 34-19.
Brown hits the road to take on Army West Point on Friday (Oct. 14) at 7 p.m. Friday night's game is a make-up from the originally scheduled match in September.
