PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown baseball head coaching chair Grant Achilles has announced the hire of Zach Hubbard as the team's new assistant coach. Hubbard comes to College Hill after most recently serving as an assistant coach at Holy Cross during the 2021 season.
"Zach brings a track record of national recruiting and player development that will translate immediately to our program," Achilles said. "We are fortunate to have him join us as we prepare to compete in the 2022 season."
At Holy Cross, Hubbard helped mentor catcher Angelo D'Acunto, who garnered First Team All-Patriot League honors. Previously, Hubbard spent four seasons coaching at Pomona-Pitzer in California, including two seasons as the associate head coach. He handled all facets of recruiting and player evaluation while serving as the team's third base coach and assisted with hitting. He helped develop two All-Americans, including Tanner Nishioka, who was selected in the ninth round of the 2017 MLB Draft. While at Pomona-Pitzer, he also taught a semester-long "Advanced Conditioning" physical education course.
Hubbard previously spent one year as an assistant at Bard College, where he coached and developed four All-Liberty League players. He also spent two seasons as an assistant at Lake Sumter College, where he coached the infielders and assisted the hitting coach. In the summer of 2015, Hubbard coached with the Leesburg Thunder and Leesburg Lightning in the Florida Collegiate Summer Baseball League.
Hubbard played two seasons of baseball at Lake Sumter College in Clermont, Florida, and was named the school's student-athlete of the year in 2011. He also played at High Point University during the 2012 season and was an infielder at Rhode Island College in 2013.
Hubbard graduated with a bachelor's degree in sport and exercise science from the University of Central Florida in 2014.
