PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's basketball team will travel to Princeton this Saturday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. before hosting Yale in its home Ivy League opener on Monday, Jan. 17 at 5 p.m.
The Bears are coming off an up-and-down Ivy League weekend last week with an impressive win over Harvard on Friday, followed up by a loss at Dartmouth on Saturday. Princeton is 12-3 on the year and undefeated on the young Ivy season with wins against Columbia and Cornell. Yale meanwhile, has not played a game since Dec. 28 as its first three scheduled Ivy contests have all been postponed. The Bulldogs are set to hit the court Friday against Cornell before coming to Providence.
Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Monday's game against Yale will also air on NESN. Fans are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets online at BrownBears.com/tickets prior to their arrival at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Scouting the Bears (9-9, 1-2 IVY)
- In the Bears' game at Dartmouth, Jaylan Gainey became the all-time program leader in field goal percentage. The Brown record book limits the stat to those who have attempted at least 200 field goals, and with his third attempt against the Big Green, Gainey reached that threshold. The senior is shooting 68.5% (137-for-200) in his career. Second place on the list belongs to Jim Turner '86 who shot 60.2%.
- Kino Lilly Jr.'s 233 points on the season are just 12 shy of cracking the top 10 of points by a freshman in Brown history. Peter Sullivan '08 and Brandon Anderson '17 are tied for ninth at 245.
- Tamenang Choh has taken over the team lead in points per game at 13.5 thanks to four straight 20+ point performances. In three Ivy League games to start the conference season, Choh is averaging a league-best 23.0 points. His 11.3 rebounds are second among all Ivy players.
- At 12-3 on the year, Princeton has posted the best scoring margin of all Ivy teams to this point in the season. The Tigers' offense is second in the league at 81.5 points per game, while their defense is allowing 70.0 points per game good for fourth in the Ivy League, leading to the top scoring margin in the conference at +11.5.
- Princeton opened its Ivy schedule with a decisive 84-69 win over Columbia. The Tigers followed it up with a two-point win over Cornell the next night. Cornell lead by 14 at halftime, but the Tigers outscored them 47-31 in the second and won at the buzzer on a Matt Allocco three.
- Jaelin Llewellyn leads the Tigers with 16.2 points per game, while Ethan Wright's 7.5 rebounds are also a team-high.
- Yale was in the middle of a three-game losing skid before its season came to a halt with games against Columbia, Dartmouth, and Harvard all postponed. The Bulldogs will play Cornell at home on Saturday, Jan. 15 to open their Ivy season.
- Yale was picked to win the Ivy League in the preseason poll after finishing the regular season in first in both the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.
- Azar Swain's 19.4 points per game lead both the Bulldogs and the Ivy League. Swain also leads the team in rebounds as the Bulldogs don't appear to have a singular dominant rebounder. They have five players averaging at least 4.0 per game with Swain leading the way at 4.6.
- Choh is in the midst of a historic stretch in his career. He has scored at least 20 points in each of the last four games for an average of 23.5. Before this stretch, Choh had never recorded 20 points in back-to-back games. His five 20-point performances on the year are also the most he has had in a single season.
- Choh's 1,154 career points are 21st in program history. Next on his list to pass is Mike Waitkus '86 who put up a career 1,165.
- The grad student is also averaging a double-double over the last four games, grabbing 10.3 boards per contest.
