ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Brown University sailing finished in sixth place after the second and final day of competition at the 2021 ICSA Team Race National Championship on Thursday on the Severn River.
Â
Competing for the Walter C. Wood Trophy at the two-day event hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy, the Bears placed in the top half of the 12-team field behind a 7-4 record on day one that positioned them in the "Gold 6" round for day two. Brown went 0-5 on the second day of competition against the five other top-six teams in the nation.
Â
In the team standings, Navy (17-2), Roger Williams (14-5), College of Charleston (13-6), and Georgetown (10-9) advanced to the final four round and took the top four spots in order. Fifth-place Stanford (8-8) and the sixth-place Bears (7-9) rounded out the schools to advance to the "Gold 6" round. Brown competed at the event for the first time as a varsity program.
Â
On day one, the Bears tallied victories over Jacksonville, Stanford, Boston College, Tufts, Tulane, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, while dropping decisions to Georgetown, Navy, Roger Williams, and Charleston.
