Women’s Hockey’s Nearis Drafted by the NWHL’s Boston Pride

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Brown University women's hockey alum Abby Nearis '21 was drafted by the National Women's Hockey League's (NWHL) Boston Pride with the 27th pick on Tuesday night.
The Beverly Mass. native is the first Brown player drafted into the NWHL since Sam Donovan '18, who was drafted by the Connecticut Whale in 2017 leading up to her senior season.
Nearis captained the Bears as a junior and was an assistant captain as a sophomore. She appeared in 83 games in her time on College Hill and recorded 14 points (4G, 10A) from the blue line. The Political Science concentrator was a three-time ECAC All-Academic Team honoree.

Established in 2015, the NWHL was the first professional women's hockey league in North America to pay its players. The mission of the league is to fuel the continued growth of the sport and brand of pro women's hockey. The league is made up of the Boston Pride, Buffalo Beauts, Connecticut Whale, Metropolitan Riveters, Minnesota Whitecaps, and the Toronto Six.
