PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University sailing will continue competition at this spring's national championships at the ICSA Team Race National Championship from June 2-3 and ICSA Coed National Championship from June 7-8 in Annapolis, Md., on the Severn River.

REGATTA RUNDOWN: TEAM RACE
The ICSA Team Race National Championship features 12 of the country's best team racing teams for a two-day championship competing for the Walter C. Wood Trophy. Each team has three boats, and teams face off against each other one at a time – with each race ending in either a win or a loss. After the round robin – in which a team races against all others – the top six teams will split off for a round robin to finalize the top four. The top four will then compete in a final round to determine the podium places and national champion. The U.S. Naval Academy will host the event with support from Annapolis Yacht Club, Severn Sailing Association, Eastport Yacht Club, and Annapolis Sailing School.

The 12 teams competing for the ICSA Team Race National Championship include: Boston College, Brown University, College of Charleston, Georgetown University, Kings Point, Jacksonville University, Roger Williams University, Saint Mary's College, Stanford, Tufts University, Tulane University, and the U.S. Naval Academy.

REGATTA RUNDOWN: COED
Coed nationals will feature as a two-day event in 2021 with 18 teams competing for the Henry A. Morss Memorial Trophy in a single round robin format. The U.S. Naval Academy will host the event with support from Annapolis Yacht Club, Severn Sailing Association, Eastport Yacht Club, and Annapolis Sailing School. The Oxford University Trophy will go to the second-place team while the Metropolitan Sailing League Trophy will go to the third-place team. The Robert Allen Sr. Trophy will go to the low point skipper of the A Division while the Robert Allen Jr. Trophy will go to the low point skipper of the B Division.

The 18 teams competing at the ICSA Coed Nationals comprise: Boston College, Brown University, College of Charleston, George Washington University, Georgetown University, Hobart & William Smith Colleges, Jacksonville University, Kings Point, North Carolina State, Roger Williams University, Saint Mary's College, Stanford University, Tulane University, University of California Santa Barbara, University of Oregon, University of Rhode Island, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and the U.S. Naval Academy.

LAST TIME AT TEAM RACE NATIONALS
The Bears lasted competed at the ICSA Team Race National Championship in 2016, finishing in eighth place. Yale, Georgetown, St. Mary's (Md.), and Boston College took the top four spots. Yale also claimed the top spot the last time the event was held in 2019.

LAST TIME AT COED NATIONALS
Brown placed fifth overall at the 2019 ICSA Coed National Championship with a score of 256. College of Charleston (205), Yale (210), Navy (215), and Hobart and William Smith (256) took the top four spots. The Bears with support from Dartmouth hosted the event at Sail Newport in Newport, R.I. from May 28-31.

IN THE HISTORY BOOKS
The Bears have registered two third-place finishes – in 1993 and 2013 – at the ICSA Team Race National Championship. Brown has posted 13 top-three finishes at the ICSA Coed National Championship – including national titles in 1942 and 1948 – with the most recent top-three finish coming with a third-place showing in 2010.

2021 ICSA WOMEN'S NATIONALS
Brown placed fourth at the 2021 ICSA Women's National Championship behind a score of 224, moving up two spots on the second and final day of competition on the Severn River. The Bears moved from sixth place after day one into fourth as the Bears' A division entry vaulted from ninth to seventh, and the team's B division boat maintained its positioning in second place over the course of the regatta's 16 race rotations.

2021 NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONS
As part of an impressive spring in its first season as a varsity program and following a 13-month hiatus from competition, Brown won the New England Women's Championship (Apr. 17) and the New England Coed Championship (Apr. 18) before placing third at the New England Team Race Championship (Apr. 25). Based on those results, the Bears qualified for all three spring college sailing national championships. Brown and Boston College are the only two teams in the NEISA to qualify for all three (women's, coed, team race) spring college sailing national championships.
