PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brown men's tennis head coach Alex Kasarov announced the hiring of Rob Raines as an assistant coach to the program on Wednesday.
"Rob was a superb hire," said Kasarov. "He is a gifted young coach with a bright future in our business."
Raines comes to College Hill from Louisiana at Lafayette, where the Ragin Cajuns competed in the Sun Belt Tournament and had two players (Kacper Dworak and Ivailo Keremedchiev) earn an NCAA Doubles Championship bid for the 2020-21 campaign.
Prior to his season at Louisiana at Lafayette, Raines was a volunteer assistant coach at top-25 Cornell University, where he was highly involved in all aspects of the program. With the program from 2018-20, Raines played a key role in helping the Big Red reach an ITA ranking of 16, their second highest in program history. In the spring of 2020, Raines also helped lead the team to becoming ECAC Tournament Champions. Raines also traveled to ATP events with players, and was critical in recruiting and administrative work.
Raines attended Baylor University where he was a part of both the men's and women's tennis programs as a hitting partner, stringer and lead instructor for summer camps. During his undergraduate time, Raines also served as a primary instructor for 254 Tennis, a first-ever after school program that included players from all over Central Texas. Raines also coached at one of the premier tennis clubs in Texas, developing many of the top juniors in the area.
Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, Raines was a top junior player in the state prior to college. He graduated from Baylor in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
