Name: Carissa Perez
Hometown: Pico Rivera, Calif.
Sport: Women's Water Polo
Concentration: Psychology
Accolades: Earned Honorable Mention ACWPC All-America honors in both 2019 and 2020 … Earned Second Team CWPA All-Tournament Team accolades in 2019 … Garnered ACWPC All-Academic and CWPA Scholar-Athlete laurels in 2018, 2019, and 2020 … Led the team in assists in 2018, 2019, and 2020.
Accomplishment you are most proud of:
The accomplishment I am most proud of is being recognized as an All-American during my sophomore (2019) and junior (2020) years. I started playing water polo at the age of seven, and once I found out about collegiate water polo, it had always been a goal of mine to earn this award.
Most memorable game:
During my time at Brown, the most memorable game I played was the game against Harvard, my freshman year. I remember the importance the game itself carried, as it was going to impact our seeding for Easterns, and it was the first time I was ever going to play against our rival! However, I had to take a math midterm that ended one hour before game time. So, after finishing, I ran to the Nelson and joined my team for warmup. Although the first quarter was a little iffy to begin with – for myself and the team – we were able to regain control of the game, and beat them 10-8! I was even able to score two cross cage-bar ins from the 4/5 side! Interestingly enough, making those goals gave me a new perspective on what opportunities I should consistently look for at my position.
Favorite spot on campus:
My favorite spot on campus is the Main Green. I feel that it really highlights the community at Brown, especially on a nice spring day. It's such a relaxing environment and overall has really great energy!
One thing most people don't know about me:
One thing most people don't know about me, besides my teammates and coaches, is that I'm superstitious when it comes to practice and game preparation. I would do the same thing before every game, in the same order, every time.
