Throughout the month of March, Brown Athletics will celebrate Women's History Month through a series of profiles. Over the course of the month, the Bears will recognize women who have made an impact on the university community and beyond.
Donna Yaffe '85, Women's Basketball
A three-time First Team All-Ivy selection, Donna Yaffe won Ivy League Player of the Year honors in 1983 and 1985 in addition to Ivy League Rookie of the Year accolades in 1982. Alongside those laurels, she collected First Team All-Ivy in 1982, 1983, and 1985. Her stellar play helped lead the Bears to back-to-back Ivy League titles in 1984 and 1985. She ranks as the fourth all-time leading scorer at Brown (1,779 career points) and held the career scoring record at her graduation. One of six Brown student-athletes to reach 1,000 points prior to her senior year, she averaged 19.9 points per game in career. At the time of her graduation, she held the top two spots in Brown's single-season scoring records with 518 points (21.6 per game) in 1981-82 and 511 points (21.3 per game) in 1982-83. She also holds the Brown record for career free throws made (489). She captained the United States to a gold medal at the 1985 Maccabiah Games and pursued a professional basketball career in Sweden and Finland. Yaffe received her master's degree in psychology from the University of the Pacific in 1990 and her Ph.D. in clinical health psychology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1996. She is a practicing psychologist in the Baltimore area.
