PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's lacrosse head coach Keely McDonald '00 has announced the program's three team captains for the 2021 season - seniors Maggie Fowler (Bethesda, Md.) and Allison Lanzone (Wayne, Pa.) and junior Erin Schafer (Pleasanton, Calif.).
"These players have done an outstanding job leading our team through unprecedented uncertainty," said McDonald. "They have been on call for each pivot that we have had to make this year. I am extremely proud of them and the entire senior class for how they have supported their teammates and maintained excellent team motivation."
Fowler has led the Bears in assists for the last two season and currently ranks ninth all-time at Brown with 42 career helpers. She ranked 10th in the Ivy League in assists per game (1.14) last season. In 2019, she led the Bears in assists (23) and was third in points (32).
Lanzone, a two-year captain, has bolstered the defense in her three years and has started every possible game (37). She led the Bears in caused turnovers (11) and ranked fifth in the Ivy League in caused turnovers per game (1.57) for the 2020 season. She also recorded her first-career goal last season, doing so against No. 16 Dartmouth.
An Honorable Mention All-Ivy selection for the Bears in 2019, Schafer is another key piece for the team's defensive unit. She led Brown in ground balls (14) and ranked second in caused turnovers (7) in 2020 while also ranking 10th in the conference in caused turnovers per game (1.00).
