
Black History Month 2021: Chazz Woodson ’05, Men’s Lacrosse

Throughout the month of February, Brown Athletics will celebrate Black History Month through a series of profiles. Over the course of the month, the Bears will recognize African Americans who have made an impact on the university community and beyond.
Chazz Woodson '05, Men's Lacrosse
Chazz Woodson '05, a Brown men's lacrosse standout and member of the program's All-Decade Team (2000-2009), has continued to remain involved in the sport. Following a decorated collegiate career that included two Second Team All-Ivy selections (2004, 2005), All-New England honors and back-to-back team offensive MVP accolades, Woodson was drafted as the 19th overall pick in the 2005 Major League Lacrosse Draft by the Long Island Lizards. Over his 10-year professional career, with stops in Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, Chesapeake and Florida, Woodson was recognized as one of the most exciting players in the game. In 2009, "The Human Highlight Reel" became the first and only lacrosse player signed to a contract with New Balance. Woodson was featured in three commercials for Brine and one for New Balance. Over the summer of 2020, Woodson was named the head coach of Hampton University's men's lacrosse program. In conjunction with coaching, Woodson is the CEO of Chazz Woodson Initiatives, LLC, an organization that supports his interests in athletics, mentoring, and community service. Under this umbrella are Woodson Lacrosse Camps, LADDERS, and The GREAT Life Project. Woodson graduated with a degree in Educational Studies with a focus on Human Development and scored 71 goals in 54 games for the Bears while captaining the team his senior year.
