Men's basketball readies for Syracuse

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's basketball team will travel to Syracuse on Monday, Dec. 27 for a 6 p.m. matchup, the team's first in 17 days.

The Bears will look to be road warriors over the next three weeks, as the game against the Orange will be the first of six straight road contests. Brown will not play at the Pizzitola Sports Center again until Jan. 17.

Scouting the Bears (8-5, 0-0 IVY)
- Brown saw its four-game winning streak snapped by Vermont when the Bears last played on Dec. 10. After trailing all game, the Bears took a 65-64 lead with 30 seconds remaining, but could not hold on as the Catamounts would eventually prevail 70-65.
- Kino Lilly Jr. earned his second Ivy League Rookie of the Week award for his performance in the team's games at Merrimack and against Vermont. He averaged 14 points, four assists, and two steals on the week. The freshman shot 55% (11-for-20) from the field and 41.7% (5-for-12) from three.
- Sophomore Kimo Ferrari has also been extremely hot as of late. He scored a career-high 12 points on a perfect 4-for-4 showing from three against Vermont. In the team's last three games, Ferrari has shot 77.8% (7-for-9) from beyond the arc.
- Syracuse has dropped its previous two games against a pair of BIG EAST opponents in Villanova and Georgetown. The Orange took a 73-72 lead against the Hoyas in the final minutes, but Georgetown was able to pull out the 79-75 victory.
- Sons of Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim, Buddy and Jimmy Boeheim have started all ten games for the Orange this season. Buddy, a senior, leads the team with 17.6 points per game. A grad transfer from Cornell, Jimmy is third on the team with 14.4 points per game in his first year at Syracuse.
- Cole Swider leads the team with 7.6 rebounds per game and Jesse Edwards is averaging a team-high 2.6 blocks.
- Syracuse leads the all-time series against the Bears, posting four wins to Brown's three.
- The last meeting came in the first round of the 1986 NCAA Tournament, when the Orange prevailed at the Carrier Dome, 101-52.
- Brown won the first three meetings in a series that started over 100 years ago. The Bears were 3-0 against the Orange from 1904-1909, but the two sides didn't meet again for 40 years.
- Syracuse claimed its first victory over Brown in 1949 in a tightly-contested matchup with a 54-52 final score. Since then, the Orange have claimed each of the next three, culminating in the 1986 NCAA Tourament matchup, to take the overall 4-3 series lead.
