PROVIDENCE, R.I. – All 14 players that took the court scored for Brown as the Bears cruised by Fisher College, 90-31 on Saturday (Dec. 11). Maddie Mullin led Brown with a career-high 18 points.
Brown (4-7) had a season-high in points and finished with its second-best shooting percentage of the year (48.1). Brown hit the 90-point mark for the first time since scoring 102 against Northern Illinois on Dec. 31, 2018. Behind Mullin's 18 points, Charlotte Jewell and Grace Kirk each finished with 10 points. Amanda Latkany added nine points and Isabella Mauricio finished with eight.
"We just always want to make sure that we are executing our high standards and sticking to our non-negotiables on offense and defense," said head coach Monique LeBlanc. "This was an opportunity to make sure that the focus was on us. We have to be great at what we are doing and who we are."
Kirk led the Bears with seven assists as Brown handed out a season-best 22 dimes. Both Chantal Nadia and Mullin each had three assists. The great passing for Brown led to easy shots inside as Brown outscored Fisher 52-8 in the paint.
The Bears defense was stellar against the Falcons, holding Fisher to just 31 points and 19.1 percent shooting, both season bests. Brown finished the game with 20 steals, the most since picking up 21 against Central Connecticut State on Nov. 6, 2018. Jewell led the Bears with four steals. Kyla Jones, Latkany, Kirk and Myla Cox each finished with three. Brown finished the game with 31 points off turnovers and 24 fast break points.
The first quarter started off very strong for Brown as the Bears jumped out to an 11-0 lead. Threes by Jewell and Mauricio plus a bucket by Murray pushed the lead to 19-2. Brown didn't allow a field goal by Fisher until 57 seconds left in the quarter when a basket made the score 23-7. Mullin hit her first three of the game 12 seconds later to give Brown a 26-7 lead after one quarter.
Cox and Emma Laszewski each scored to start the second quarter before the Falcons picked up a basket. Fisher scored with 2:55 left in the half but Brown went on a 9-0 run to close out the half as the Bears went 4-for-5 from the field and took a 43-11 lead into the break.
A 9-0 run during the middle of the third with points from Mauricio, Latkany Jones and Ashley Ducharme made the lead 41 for the Bears. Laszewski and Ducharme each scored layups with under a minute left in the quarter and Brown led 67-27 after three.
Jewell scored five-straight points midway through the fourth quarter that started a 16-0 run to end the game for the Bears.
Brown will be off until Dec. 22 when the Bears will play host to Johnson & Wales at 6 p.m. in the Pizzitola Sports Center.
