PRINCETON, N.J. – A pair of Brown cross country seniors have been recognized for their work both on the course and in the classroom. Jared Yabu and Katherine Dokholyan were both named to the 2021 Cross Country Academic All-Ivy Team on Tuesday. The duo are among the 16 men and women who were recognized by the league in their announcement of major postseason award winners.
Yabu led Brown's men's pack at this past weekend's Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, finishing the 8K 27th overall in 24:59.6. He also finished second overall at the Rothenburg Run, finishing the 5K in personal-record time of 14:49.2. Professionally, Yabu is an aspiring physical therapist who volunteered at a PT clinic in Colorado in the Fall 2020 semester and worked at a PT clinic in the spring of 2021.
Dokholyan also led Brown's pack at heps this past weekend, finishing the 6K course 23rd overall in 21:26.2. She has been Brown's frontrunner in three meets so far this season, and has been second in the team's pack in the other three meets. She finished second overall to help Brown net a perfect score at the Rothenburg Run and led the way for the Bears at the New England Championships. Concentrating in cognitive science, Dokholyan serves as a teaching assistant, is a member of the orientation welcoming committee, and works as a cognitive science Departmental Undergraduate Group (DUG) Leader at Brown. She also has worked in a psychiatry and mood disorders research lab at Butler Hospital. Dokholyan also sings and is a leader in an a cappella group and speaks fluent Russian.
To be eligible for Academic All-Ivy, a student-athlete must be a non-first year that is in good academic standing at their institution, and serve as a starter or key reserve on their team's roster.
The Bears will next compete at the NCAA Regional meet at Franklin Park in Boston on Friday, Nov. 12.
