HANOVER, N.H. – The top-seeded Dartmouth Big Green jumped to an early lead and never looked back, taking a 56-5 win over the fourth-ranked Brown Bears in the NIRA Tier I Semifinal match, held Saturday afternoon at Brophy Field.
"At the beginning of the season we chose five words to represent our values as a team for the season: respect, trust, drive, cohesion, and growth," said senior Emmajane Rhodenhiser. "We did not see the result we wanted on the scoreboard today, but we did play together, we were resilient and showed huge growth from even just a few months ago. We are all excited to see what we do next season, especially the next time we play Dartmouth!"
Dartmouth converted two tries in the opening 12 minutes of the opening half to take a 10-0 lead over Brown. Abbey Savin missed a pair of difficult conversion attempts following the tries.
The Big Green added four more tries before the half finished with two successful conversions from Kristin Bitter to make it 34-0 at the break.
Emerson Goodrich scored her first career try to open the second half and cut into Dartmouth's lead. Mahdia Parker and Noelle Lewis each had long runs to set up the try.
Following a Dartmouth try, Parker nearly broke through for a try following a long run from Akilah Cathey and offload to Delaney Dill.
The home team added three tries with no conversions in the final minutes of the second half to push the score to 56-5.
Dartmouth will take on third-seeded Army, who beat second-seeded Harvard earlier today with a 25-17 final in Cambridge, in the NIRA Tier I Championship next Sunday (Nov. 21).
