PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brittany Raphino has been named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, Kayla Duran has won Defensive Player of the Year, and, for the second season in a row, Kia McNeill has been crowned Coach of the Year as the Brown women's soccer team totaled three major awards and seven All-Ivy selections, as announced by the conference office Wednesday.
Raphino, Duran, and Ava Seelenfreund were named to the All-Ivy First Team, Kayla Thompson and Evelyn Calhoon were named to the Second Team, and Cameron Brown and Maesyn G'Bye were Honorable Mention selections.
McNeill, after being named the 2019 Ivy League Coach of the Year, reprises that role this season after leading the preseason-favorite Bears to a 12-3 overall record and to their first 7-0 Ivy League record in program history. In addition, Brown went 7-0 at home this season, improving to 18-0-1 at Stevenson-Pincince Field over the last two years, and has not suffered a home loss since Oct. 13, 2018. Brown also captured its 14th Ivy Title, making it the most decorated program in Ivy League women's soccer history.
Raphino, after being named the 2019 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, has earned her first Offensive Player of the Year honor. The junior had a career-year with 11 goals, six assists, and 28 points. Her goals and points were Ivy League-bests and her assists were tied for fourth in the conference. On the year, Raphino had four game-winning goals, tying her for second in the Ivy League.
Duran has earned the Defensive Player of the Year crown in her first season as a Bear. The junior transfer from Boston College was a rock on the Brown back line all season long and was a major reason the Bears' defense allowed only .57 goals per game in conference action. Duran added one goal and four assists for six points on the offensive side including the game-winning goal against Princeton.
Seelenfreund joins Raphino and Duran on the First Team. The junior was second on the team with eight goals and 18 points, as she added two assists as well. Seelenfreund also had four game-winning goals on the year, same as Raphino. Her 11 points in conference action were tied for third most in the Ivy League.
Thompson earns a Second Team selection after another successful season in goal for the Bears. She earned all 12 of the team's wins and led Brown to six shutouts. Her .57 goals against average in conference games was third and her .818 save percentage against Ivy opponents was amongst the conference's best.
Calhoon rounds out the team's Second Team selections after an impressive rookie season that saw the sophomore score one goal and add five assists for seven points. All five of her assists were recorded in Ivy League contests, ranking her first in the league in assists in conference games.
Cameron Brown and Maesyn G'Bye were each tabbed as Honorable Mention selections. Brown was another member of the formidable Brown defense and was one of only three players to start all 15 games for the Bears. G'Bye had a breakout season as a senior, posting career-numbers with three goals and five assists for 11 points, putting her at third on the team.
Brown begins NCAA Tournament play this Saturday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. at home against St. John's.
