Throughout the month of March, Brown Athletics will celebrate Women's History Month through a series of profiles. Over the course of the month, the Bears will recognize women who have made an impact on the university community and beyond.
Tara Mounsey '01, Women's Ice Hockey/Field Hockey
A standout two-sport student-athlete at Brown, Tara Mounsey '01 entrenched her name into the annals of the Brown records books in field hockey and ice hockey. During her freshman season in ice hockey at Brown, Mounsey and the Bears compiled a 28-2-1 record as she claimed Ivy League and ECAC Rookie of the Year honors. Mounsey spent the 1997-98 campaign training for the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan, where she helped the U.S. Women's Hockey Team capture gold after recording points in five of six contests. Four years later, she took the silver medal at the Salt Lake City Olympic Games in 2002. In 1998-99, Mounsey returned to Brown as a two-sport athlete, joining the field hockey team that fall and promptly earning Second Team All-Ivy and Second Team Regional All-American accolades. That winter, the Brown women's hockey team finished second in the ECAC on the strength of Mounsey's First Team All-Ivy performance. Mounsey's successful 1999-2000 season culminated in First Team All-Ivy recognition, as well as First Team All-American honors as the Bears claimed a share of the Ivy League field hockey championship with a 13-4 record. She was at the pinnacle of both sports, serving as a finalist for two national awards, the Honda Broderick Award, which honors the nation's top-four field hockey players and the Patty Kazmaier Award, which honors the nation's most outstanding women's college hockey player.
