Skiing Finishes Fourth at Eastern Regionals

SUGARLOAF, Maine – The Brown ski team finished fourth at the at USCSA Eastern Regionals at Sugarloaf Mountain thus qualifying for the USCSA National Championships (Mar. 8-14). Sophomore Avery Vilandrie (Peacham, Vt.) finished 10th overall for the weekend to lead the Bears.
 
"The women really worked together well as a team this weekend," said head coach Alex Norden. "We had some mishaps on Saturday but Kat and Maddie stepped it up to put us in in shot of qualifying (for nationals). On Sunday, everyone just needed to ski smart with minimal mistakes. They rose to the occasion under pressure. Now we can focus on improving and skiing faster so we can take chances at Nationals."
 
Sophomore Maggie Beardsley (Sandy Hook, Conn.) had the top time in her first run in the giant slalom on Saturday but did not finish in her second run. Vilandrie placed 10th with a time of 1:54.45 to lead Brown while freshman Kat Stephan (Charlestown, Mass.) came in 20th (1:57.29).
On Sunday in the slalom, sophomore Alexa Dannis (Hillsdale, N.Y.) led the Bear racers with a sixth-place finish in 1:35.75 while Vilandrie claimed 10th in 1:37.47. Beardsley also turned in a 15th place finish (1:41.08).
Brown next competes at the USCSA Nationals, Sunday, March 8 through Saturday, March 14 at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, N.Y.
