ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Brown men's tennis team was defeated by No. 5 Michigan, 4-0, to close out the team's trip to Michigan on Sunday at the Preston Robert Tisch Tennis Building.
"We missed out on a few opportunities today against the #5 team in the country," said head coach Tim Gray. "These are valuable lessons that will hopefully serve us well as we head into the second half of the season. I'm not sure the doubles point could have been much closer. Grabbing that could have certainly changed the complexion of the match, but it wasn't meant to be. Time to get back to work in a very directed and intentional fashion."
The Wolverines won the doubles point with a 6-2 win in the second spot followed by a 6-4 victory in first doubles, with senior Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) and sophomore Roger Chou (Austin, Texas) going toe-to-toe with second-ranked Mattias Siimar and Andrew Fenty.
Michigan took a 2-0 lead with a win in fifth singles to begin the next round. Walker then faced his second ranked opponent of the day, but fell to No. 17 Andrew Fenty, 6-3, 6-2, in the first spot. The Wolverines closed the match with two 6-3 set wins in sixth singles.
The Bears next host UConn on Thursday, March 12 at 4:00 p.m.
