Providence, R.I. - Former Brown men's golf standout Sasha Lobel '19has received a sponsor exemption to compete in the Korn Ferry Tour's LECOM Suncoast Classic in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, February 13-16, at the Lakewood National Golf Club. He received the sponsor exemption as a former First Tee of Pittsburgh Scholarship recipient.
The 2020 Korn Ferry Tour is the developmental tour for the U.S.-based PGA Tour, and features professional golfers who have either not yet reached the PGA Tour, or who have done so, but then failed to win enough FedEx Cup points, to stay at that level.
"We're very proud of Sasha and his accomplishments," said Brown head coach Mike Hughes. "He's a true representative of a Brown student-athlete and we know he'll succeed in his ongoing PGA Tour quest."
Lobel earned First Team All-Ivy honors as a junior at Brown, finishing fifth individually at the Ivy League Championship after posting a final day 68. An Academic All-Ivy selection, Lobel also placed 11thindividually at the Princeton Invitational.
"LECOM extended me a sponsor exemption after I sent in a resume," said Lobel. "The resume stood out because of the solid playing career, the community service record, and the perseverance it took to make the team at Brown. I am excited for this opportunity, an opportunity most players never get, and am thrilled to use this as a learning experience to propel my career forward."
Lobel's tee time on February 13 is 9:01 am from the 10thtee.
