Brown University athletics will be recognizing its fall senior student-athletes who have had their season put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Senior student-athletes will be featured during the week on Brownbears.com and various social media platforms.
Name: John Vrablic
Hometown: Avon, Ohio
Sport: Men's Soccer
Concentration: Economics
Most memorable game:
The game that sticks out in my head the most is beating Harvard 3-0 in the 2019 season. Along with beating our biggest rival, I was able to contribute to the scoreline, scoring in my first Ivy League game. We traveled to Boston, seeking a huge three points after two hard-fought games against Columbia and Princeton. Beating Harvard definitely felt great, and that is a game that I will not forget.
Favorite experience as a Brown student-athlete:
My favorite experience as a Brown student-athlete is being on campus in the early days of August, preparing for the season with a hard preseason. While all Brown Soccer players dread the beginning of preseason because of the three-mile test, preseason is a great opportunity to enjoy the hours of free time outside of practice. You find out what type of team you are going to be and more importantly you build bonds that are going to last a lifetime. I am forever grateful for events such as bowling, bonfires, and binging shows with everyone because once the season begins, there is no time to stop and enjoy your teammates. Preseason gives us that opportunity.
Favorite spot on campus:
Besides our new stadium, I love hanging out on the main green. When I first visited Brown, I fell in love with Brown after walking through the main green. During the warm months of the year, the main green is a great place to enjoy some time away from classes and studying. I miss walking out of class during the first week of May and seeing so many people hanging out. Whether playing spike ball while listening to music, studying, or just laying in the sun, the main green is the heart of Brown.
Favorite Activity Outside of Your Sport:
Outside of soccer, I have enjoyed golfing over the past six months. With COVID-19 hampering many social activities, I turned to golf to spend lots of my time in quarantine. After quarantine, my summer consisted of working, running/soccer, and at least a round of golf a week. Although my golf game is not where I want it to be, I enjoy playing a round of golf with my friends, family, and teammates. This is an activity that we, as a team, have done more often without the fall season.
Plans after graduation:
Following graduation in May, I am planning on entering into the financial services world. While it is a challenging industry, I think being a student-athlete at Brown has prepared me for a start in finance.
