
Men’s Tennis Defeats Quinnipiac, 5-2, and Binghamton, 7-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's tennis team opened the spring season with two victories, defeating Quinnipiac, 5-2, and Binghamton, 7-0, on Sunday at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
"This was a solid start against two feisty teams," said head coach Tim Gray. "We still have work to do, but this is a good initial showing."
Senior Peter Litsky (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and junior Teddy van Eck (Rye, N.Y.) got the Bears going in their first match against the Bobcats with a 6-1 win in third doubles. Junior Ching Lam (Sai Kung, Hong Kong) and sophomore Robert Siniakowicz (West Windsor, N.J.) followed by winning the point for Brown with a 6-2 showing in the first spot.
Litsky also opened singles with a win, defeating his opponent 6-1, 6-2 in the second position. Van Eck increased the Bears' lead to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win in fourth singles. Walker (6-1, 6-2, first) and Lam (6-3, 3-6, 10-6) put the match away with their wins for a 5-0 lead before Quinnipiac got on the board by taking fifth and sixth singles for the final of 5-2.
In the second match, van Eck and Litsky posted the first doubles win in the third spot, 6-3, while Lam and Siniakowicz clinched the point with a 6-4 victory in first doubles.
Lam started the singles victories with a 6-2, 6-4 win in the third spot. Van Eck (3-6, 6-2, 6-0, fourth) and Litsky (7-5, 1-6, 6-3) went the distance in three sets for a 4-0 lead. Senior Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) also gutted out a win, taking his second singles match in 7-6 (1) and 7-6 (8). Siniakowicz (6-4, 6-1, fifth) and freshman Matthew Mu (La Jolla, Calif.) (6-3, 6-1, sixth) wrapped up the match for the Bears.
Brown next hosts Buffalo on Friday, Jan. 24 at 5:00 p.m. and Fordham on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 3:00 p.m.
