PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown field hockey team suffered its first loss of the season, a 3-0 defeat to cross-town rival Providence, on Sunday at Lennon Family Field. The Friars scored once in the second quarter and twice in the third to come away with the victory.Â

The Bears (1-1) had a chance to break a scoreless game at the end of the first quarter when junior Anagha Nayak (Ann Arbor, Mich.) collected the rebound off of senior Corinne Condie's (St. Louis, Mo.) breakaway and fired a shot on net, but PC's Allyson Parker came up with the defensive save. Shots were even after one period of play, 2-2, while corners favored the Friars, 3-1.

The Friars increased their lead to 2-0 at 34:59 in the third when a pass was redirected by Corinne Kenney. PC went up 3-0 shortly after (37:07) with a tally from Kara Sandor. Brown picked up the tempo offensively, generating five shots to PC's three in the stanza but Lydia Rice would make three saves.Â
The fourth quarter ended scoreless and Ayles made two save in the period to up her total to seven. Overall, Providence held a 13-9 advantage in shots and a 10-4 lead in penalty corners.
