Men’s Soccer Hosts Hartford Friday Night in Season Opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's soccer team will kick off the 2019 campaign with a home game against Hartford on Friday, September 6 at Stevenson-Pincince Field. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

The Ivy League on ESPN
Video of all home contests and all Ivy League games, home and away, will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Fans can subscribe and view games by purchasing a monthly package for $4.99 or a yearly package for $49.99.
Brown in Season Openers
The Bears are 51-34-8 all-time in season openers and are 7-2 under the direction of 10th-year head coach Patrick Laughlin. Brown has captured four straight season openers with a combined score of 6-1. The Bears topped Bryant in last year's opener, winning 2-1.
Scouting Hartford
Hartford (0-2-0) opened its season with a road trip to California and dropped a pair of games to Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside. Sophomore defender Nick Benjamin scored the lone goal of the weekend with a second-half tally against UC Riverside. Jimmy Slayton played both games in net and allowed four total goals with seven combined saves. Hartford went 1-10-5 overall last season.
2019 Captains
Seniors Jack Hagstrom, Daniel Schiller and Jackson Goebel will serve as team captains this season. Hagstrom, a three-time First Team All-Ivy selection, returns for his fifth campaign after missing 2018 due to injury. Schiller and Goebel will serve as captain for the first time in their respective careers.
Returning All-Ivy
The Bears welcome back two of their four All-Ivy selections from last year's squad. Daniel Schiller put together a breakout season as he led the team in goals (4), assists (5) and points (13), en route to Second Team accolades. He was also named to the USC All-Northeast Region Third Team. Derek Waleffe was named Honorable Mention All-Ivy after a strong rookie season, as he finished tied for second on the team with eight points.
The Road Ahead
After Friday, Brown will head to Washington DC for a pair of games against Howard and George Washington.
