
Women’s Crew Alumna Paine ’19 Set to Represent Great Britain at U23 Worlds

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's crew recent graduate Sophie Paine '19 will represent Great Britain in the women's eight at the U23 World Rowing Under 23 Championships from July 24-28 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla.
A native of Freeport, Bahamas, Paine joined the Brown women's crew program as a walk-on in 2015 and finished her career as a First Team All-Ivy honoree. A CRCA Scholar-Athlete and CRCA All-Conference selection, Paine raced with the Bears' first varsity eight in every race during her junior and senior seasons.
During her time with the Bears, Paine helped Brown win the Ivy League team points trophy in 2016 and 2017 and finish in the top 10 in the NCAA team standings all four years. She won three medals at the Ivy League Championships, including a silver medal with the first varsity eight in 2019.
Under the direction of coaches John Murphy and Phoebe Murphy, Brown remains one of three programs to compete at all 23 NCAA Championships since the event's inception in 1997. The Bears have posted top-10 finishes at 22 of the 23 championships.
