
Women’s Water Polo Totals 14 ACWPC All-Academic Honorees

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's water polo totaled 14 ACWPC All-Academic honorees and posted the nation's seventh-highest team GPA, the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches and Collegiate Water Polo Association announced on Wednesday.
As a team, the Bears ranked seventh in the country, fourth among Division I institutions, and first among CWPA Division I schools for team GPA. The Bears have finished in the top 10 in the team rankings in each of the last 11 years. Brown has totaled 10 or more All-Academic selections in eight of the last nine seasons.
Four Bears garnered "Outstanding" accolades – senior Maigrie McDougal (Sacramento, Calif.), sophomore Alli Schaum (San Rafael, Calif.), junior Jamie Smith (Lexington, Ky.), and senior Tiffany Zhao (Beaverton, Ore.).
McDougal and Zhao both earned All-Academic accolades for the fourth time, Smith collected the laurels for the third time, and Schaum gained the honors for the second time.
Brown tallied seven "Superior" selections – sophomore Kaitlyn Cook (Los Gatos, Calif.), senior Audrey Flower (Portola Valley, Calif.), sophomore Riley Hughes (Evanston, Ill.), senior McKenna Miller (Danville, Calif.), sophomore Carissa Perez (Pico Rivera, Calif.), sophomore Morgan Rooney (Duluth, Minn.), and senior Allison Woo (Arcadia, Calif.).
Flower and Miller took home All-Academic plaudits for the fourth time while Woo gained the award for the third time. Cook, Hughes, and Perez captured the honors for the second time.
The Bears' "Excellent" choices included junior Lexi Atwell (La Jolla, Calif.) and freshmen Katie Klein (Lafayette, Calif.) and Marley Presiado (Newport Beach, Calif.). Atwell garnered ACWPC All-Academic for the second time.
Eligibility standards for ACWPC All-Academic Awards include that a student-athlete must have competed for a varsity program and have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher. A team may submit its top 18 student-athletes for the awards.
