
Women’s Basketball’s Steeves Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's basketball recent graduate Erika Steeves '19 has been nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award, the National Collegiate Athletic Association announced on Wednesday.

A native of Montreal, Quebec, Steeves finished her career as Brown's all-time games played leader (114) and became the first student-athlete in program history to tally over 1,200 career points (1,203), over 800 career rebounds (815), and over 200 career assists (214). She closed her career ranked 14th at Brown in career points (1,203), fourth in career rebounds (815), second in career 3-point percentage (.370), fifth in career 3-pointers made (151), and fifth in career free throw percentage (.786).
A three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and a two-time team captain, Steeves served as Co-President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as a senior after acting as Community Service Co-Chair for SAAC as a junior. Steeves worked as an Investment Analyst Summer Intern at the Brown University Investment Office in the summer of 2018 and earned a Royce Fellowship for Sport and Society for the summer of 2017, spending 23 days traveling through China, while studying the market for amateur and professional basketball there.
The NCAA Woman of the Year program honors the academic achievements, athletics excellence, community service and leadership of graduating female college athletes from all three divisions. To be eligible, a nominee must have competed and earned a varsity letter in an NCAA-sponsored sport, must have completed eligibility in her primary sport, and must have earned her undergraduate degree by Summer 2019.
NCAA member schools have nominated a record 585 female college athletes for the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year award. The NCAA encourages member schools to honor their top graduating female student-athletes each year by submitting their names for consideration for the Woman of the Year award.
