No. 8 Women’s Crew Defeats Cornell, Retains Dunn Bowl

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – No. 8 Brown University women's crew defeated Cornell University in all four races – the first varsity eight, second varsity eight, A varsity four, and B varsity four – on the Seekonk River on Saturday morning in its regular season finale.

The Bears retained the Dunn Bowl – a trophy which began in 1993 – through their victories in the three NCAA events – the first varsity eight, second varsity eight, and A varsity four.

"The conditions were excellent today, and it was good racing as we competed for the Dunn Bowl," Brown head coach John Murphy said.

The race marked the final home race for the members of Brown's Class of 2019 – Claire Benning (Weston, Mass.), Jessica Levey (Westborough, Mass.), Stacy Neul (Plymouth, Mass.), Sophie Paine (Freeport, Bahamas), Valerie Rico (Queens, N.Y.), Amy Tarczynski (Oakland, Calif.), and Keenae Tiersma (Woodinville, Wash.).

Brown took the first varsity eight behind a time of 6:11.80, beating Cornell (6:27.90) by 16.10 seconds.

The Bears captured the second varsity eight with a time of 6:18.70, topping the Big Red (6:30.30) by 11.60 seconds. Brown's third varsity eight also took part in the race, finishing in third with a time of 6:40.70.

In the first race of the day in the A varsity four, Brown bested Cornell by 31.10 seconds in a head-to-head matchup, 7:16.30 to 7:47.40.

Closing the day with the B/C varsity four race, the Bears' BV4 claimed the race with a time of 7:08.30 while Brown's CV4 took second with a time of 7:10.30, clipping the Big Red's BV4 (7:22.60) by 12.30 seconds.

Next, Brown will compete at the 2019 Ivy League Championship at Cooper River Park in Pennsauken, N.J., on Sunday, May 19 with heats starting at 8:00 a.m. and finals beginning at 2:00 p.m.
