
Track & Field Completes NCAA East Regional

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Brown men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up the third and final day of the NCAA East Preliminary on Saturday at the University of North Florida.
"We were hoping to advance a few more athletes to the nationals, but I was proud of how the team competed," said head coach Tim Springfield. "We also had six underclassmen competing, and I know that they will put this experience to good use next year. We're excited to head out to Austin next week with Carly."
Owen Russell (Attleboro, Mass.) was 14th overall in the hammer throw with a toss of 215-11on Thursday as he just missed qualifying for the NCAA Championship by two spots. Michael Coppolino (Cumberland, R.I.) also competed in the hammer and placed 27th at 193-9. Russell and Coppolino went 2-3 in the event at the Ivy League Championships.

The women's team had four entries in the long jump and Ijeoma Uche (Lawrenceville, Ga.) paced the group with a 22nd-place performance at 19-5.5. Carly Paul (Fort Collins, Colo.) was 38th with a leap of 19-0.5, before Rachel McMahon (New York, N.Y.) and Zion Lewis (Canton, Ga.) placed 41st and 42nd, respectively.

Paul also competed in the high jump and placed 21st in the event with a cleared height of 5-7.

On Friday, Bretram Rogers (Grand Prairie, Texas) wrapped up his sophomore campaign with a 34-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.14.

Samantha Valentine (Middleton, Wis.) turned in a 30th-place showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 10:32.00. Â Cameron Daly (Meredith, N.H.) also competed in the 5,000 meters.
Paul will compete in the heptathlon at the NCAA Championship on June 5-8 in Austin, Texas.
