Four Brown Student-Athletes Named to Academic All-District At-Large Teams

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown juniors Phil Goss (San Francisco, Calif.) and Coley Sullivan (Louisville, Ky.) and seniors Amy Tarczynski (Oakland, Calif.) and Zoe Verni (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) were named to their respective 2018-19 CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Teams on Thursday as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom, as only student-athletes who maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 and are significant contributors to their team's success are eligible for nomination.
All four Brown student-athletes will advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees to be announced on June 21.
Goss, from the men's lacrosse team, earned Second Team All-Ivy honors this past season for the Bears and was on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List. The USILA Preseason Second Team All-American, made 16 saves in a win over Princeton and 17 saves vs. Villanova. Concentrating in Economics and Political Science, Goss also had 15 saves versus #12 Virginia and #5 Yale.
Sullivan, from the men's swimming & diving team, broke six school records at the 2019 Ivy League Championships, two individual and four relays, and earned Second Team All-Ivy laurels in the 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle relay. The Applied Mathematics-Economics concentrator was named Academic All-Ivy at the conclusion of the season.
Tarczynski, from the women's crew team, helped the 1V8 earn ranked wins over #6 Ohio State, #9 Yale, #12 USC, #15 Radcliffe this past season. The Economics concentrator has raced with 1V8 in all eight races this season. Tarczynski received CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in 2017-18 and helped the Bears win Ivy League team titles in 2016 and 2017.
Verni, from the women's lacrosse team, was named Second Team All-Ivy in 2019 after ranking third on the team in ground balls (29) and fourth in caused turnovers (18). She caused a career-high four turnovers in an upset win at No. 9 Princeton. The Economics and International Relations concentrator started every possible game of her career (60).
