
Women's Squash Announces Team Awards, Captains and Incoming Recruits at Annual Team Banquet

Providence, RI -Â The Brown women's squash team wrapped up its season with the Annual Squash Team Banquet at the Faculty Club with the naming of team captains for 2019-20, the presentation of team awards and the announcement of the incoming Class of 2023.

Among several awards presented, the team and coaches recognized senior captains Katrina Northrop, Hannah Safford. In addition,  juniors Hannah Seckendorf and Isabel Young, were cited for earning CSA Scholar-Athlete Awards, which are awarded to juniors/seniors who play 50% or more matches in the season and have a 3.5 GPA or above.  Young was also recognized as a Winter Academic All-Ivy recipient for 2018-19.

Other awards presented at the team banquet included the Best Record at the Howe Cup which went to sophomore ÂCatherine Kimmel, who went 2-1 at the tournament winning matches against Amherst and UVA.
Â
The Most Improved Player Award went to freshmen Isabella Kearns, while the Melucci-Morphy Award was won by Young and sophomore Alexa Jacobs. The Kate Brodsky Award was awarded to Safford and Northrop.

The team voted for the captains for the 2019-20 season, and the Bears will be led by rising seniors Scarlett Bergam, Young and Seckendorf.

Head Coach Stuart le Gassick thanked seniors Northrop, Megha Poddar, Chloe So and Safford for their wonderful leadership and contributions to the Squash team over their four years on College Hill.

The Bears are looking forward to the arrival on campus of three freshmen:  Katherine Dowling from Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore MD, Esha Lakhotia from Saratoga High School, San Francisco CA,  and Dani Benstock from Harriton High School, Rosemont PA

The squash program is looking forward to the Brown Graduation Weekend this May. On Friday, May 24, 2019, the team will host an Alumni Reunion in the late afternoon, between 5pm and 7pm, at the Pizzitola Squash Courts, prior to Campus Dance. Â
