PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Brown women's tennis team was defeated by Penn, 4-0, on Sunday at the Hamlin/Hecht Tennis Center.
"We faced a very tough team today in Penn," said head coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "Their doubles play is the best in the league this season and they definitely displayed their skill today. We weren't able to get any momentum in singles play on most courts and we weren't as resilient as we have shown during some of our matches this season. I feel optimistic about next season returning a core group of players who are excited about getting better and two quality freshmen joining the team in the fall."
Penn took the doubles point with a 6-1 win in first double and a 6-2 showing in the second spot. The Quakers were then able to win the match with singles victories in the first, sixth and fifth position. Sophomore Courtney Kowalsky's (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) fourth singles match went unfinished but she battled back after a first set loss (6-3) and won the second, 6-4.
