PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's and women's track & field teams posted several top-10 program performances at the Georgia Tech Invitational and Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational over the weekend.
Â
Facing cold and wet conditions in Atlanta, sophomore Bretram Rogers (Grand Prairie, Texas) led the way at the Georgia Tech Invitational as he turned in a runner-up finish in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.10, which is the second-best time in program history behind only Jamil McClintock '08 (14.04).
Â
Rookie Joe Grula (Sugarloaf, Pa.) won the javelin with a toss of 199-6, while Jason Katz (Wyckoff, N.Y.) and Owen Russell (Attleboro, Mass.) added second-place efforts in the long jump (22-10.5) and hammer (213-0).
Â
"The weather didn't cooperate in Georgia, but we put up a bunch of solid performances and Bret Rogers had the breakthrough we've known was there--it was great to see him make that jump," said head coach Tim Springfield. "And I know there's more there."
Â
Brown set a trio of individual top-10 program finishes at the Larry Ellis Invite in Princeton. Bailey Pate (Valencia, Calif.) was 14th in the 800 meters at 2:09.51 for ninth all-time at Brown, and Samantha Valentine (Middleton, Wis.) took seventh in the steeplechase at 10:42.90 for sixth in program history. Senior Noah Korotzer (Palos Verdes, Calif.) claimed fifth in the 100 meters in a time of 10.70 for ninth in the record book.
Â
The women's 4x100 relay team of Hannah Barakat (Los Angeles, Calif.), Kennedy Kerr (West Hempstead, N.Y.), Arielle Desir (Ridge, N.Y.) and Sydney Scott (Charlotte, N.C.) finished third overall at 46.73 for sixth all-time at Brown.
Â
The men's 4x100 team of Alex Wilson (Louisville, Ky.), Korotzer, Obi Ifediora (Verona, Wis.) and Philip Batler (Newton, Mass.) posted a solid performance with a time of 41.65.
Â
"I was very happy with both 4x100 relays," said Springfield. "When the men clean up their handoffs, I know they'll make a huge jump. Bailey Pate made the most of her first race since the indoor season. It's not easy to come out of the gate with a big performance."
Â
Brown will host the Springtime Invitational next weekend in the final tune-up before Heps.
