Track & Field Wraps Up Ocean State Invite

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's and women's track & field teams racked up 11 individual victories as the Bears host the Ocean State Invitational with Providence College over the weekend.

Brown claimed the top three spots in the men's 3,000 meters, led by David Scherrer (Virginia Beach, Va.) with a winning time of 8:26.60, before Franco Martins (Orlando, Fla.) and Hughes Benjamin (New Orleans, La.) at 8:28.77 and 8:42.47.

Bretram Rogers (Grand Prairie, Texas) topped the 110 hurdles as he crossed in first place at 14.68.

Jason Katz (Wyckoff, N.Y.) topped the field of 15 in the long jump with a winning leap of 21-11.5 and Nigel Despinasse (Baton Rouge, La.) won the shot put at 52-1. Rookie Kegan Schroeter (Narragansett, R.I.) captured the discus with a toss of 158-1 and Owen Russell (Attleboro, Mass.) won the hammer at 214-3.

Zion Lewis (Canton, Ga.) and Kennedy Kerr (West Hempstead, N.Y.) went one-two in the 200 meters in times of 24.31 and 24.61. Chloe Conway (Manchester, N.H.) added a first-place finish in the 3,000 meters at 9:57.68.

Ijeoma Uche (Lawrenceville, Ga.) took first in the long jump with a leap of 20-3 and Rachel McMahon (New York, N.Y.) was runner-up at 19-4. Felicia Renelus (Valley Stream, N.Y.) turned in a first-place showing in the triple jump at 39-3.75 and Jae Crawford (Orlando, Fla.) earned her second victory in the discus this season at 142-1.

The Bears will compete at the Larry Ellis Invite next weekend.
