
No. 10 Women’s Crew Wins Three Races, Tops No. 6 Ohio St. in 1V8 in Spring Opener

PRINCETON, N.J. – No. 10 Brown University women's crew won three races and topped No. 6 Ohio State University in the first varsity eight, competing at No. 8 Princeton University with OSU on Saturday morning at Lake Carnegie in its spring season opener.
"Princeton and Ohio State are two extremely good, tough rowing programs," Brown head coach John Murphy said. "I think we had a good day against them, and I think it was a really good start. We won the first three races, and everybody raced hard. It was a good beginning to the season, and I think it's something we can build on."
Competing against two of the top-eight ranked programs in the country, the Bears finished first in the A varsity four, B varsity four, and third varsity eight while finishing second in the first varsity eight and third in the second varsity eight.
In the first varsity eight, Brown came in second with a time of 6:19.3 topping third-place Ohio State (6:19.5) by 0.2 seconds while trailing first-place Princeton (6:15.8) by 3.5 seconds.
In the second varsity eight, the Bears finished with a time of 6:30.3 for third place, falling to the second-place Tigers (6:27.1) by 3.2 seconds and the first-place Buckeyes (6:21.4) by 8.9 seconds.
Rounding out the NCAA events, Brown won the A varsity four race with a time of 7:21.0. The Bears bested Princeton (7:22.4) by 1.4 seconds and Ohio State (7:29.4) by 8.4 seconds.
The Bears captured the third varsity eight race behind a time of 6:41.2, beating Princeton (6:47.4) by 6.2 seconds and Ohio State (6:50.0) by 8.8 seconds as well as the Tigers' fourth varsity eight.
In the day's first race, Brown won the B varsity four with a time of 7:26.4, clipping Ohio State (7:28.0) by 1.6 seconds and Princeton (7:28.3) by 1.9 seconds. Brown's C varsity four came in fourth in the race with a time of 7:49.4.
Competing for the Class of 1987 Trophy against Princeton, Brown moved to 12-20 in the all-time series in the first varsity eight.
Next, Brown races at the Ivy League Invitational at Princeton on Lake Carnegie on Sunday, Apr. 7.
