JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Brown men's tennis team was defeated by North Florida, 5-2, on Tuesday at the UNF Tennis Complex. It is the Bears' first of three matches in Florida while the team is on spring break.
"The conditions were extremely difficult today, and I'm really proud of how we battled," said head coach Tim Gray. "We had some opportunities to turn the momentum our way, but today just wasn't our day. We will bounce back and be ready for Thursday."
North Florida won the doubles point with a 6-3 victory in the first spot and a tough 7-5 win in third doubles. The Ospresys gained a 2-0 lead by opening the singles round with a victory in sixth singles before sophomore Ching Lam (Sai Kung, Hong Kong) put the Bears on the board with a 6-2, 6-3 showing in second singles. North Florida picked up two more wins (first, third) before freshman Roger Chou (Austin Texas) gained Brown's second win, 7-6, 6-4, in the fourth position. The Ospreys closed the evening by taking the fifth singles match in extra sets.
The Bears remain in Florida and will next compete at Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday, Mar. 29 starting at 5:00 p.m.
